We are a great nation, but we still have a long way to go and it will take a lot of hard work and commitment.
We need to make tough choices. I understand tough choices, having been raised by a single mom, working three jobs to keep a roof over our head.
And without public assistance, I would have not been able to attend school.
This is why I began my career in politics and public policy at the grassroots level, to effect real change.
During my eight years in the Senate, I've sponsored 11 bills and passed all of them through the chamber.
